The only thing I hope to see added in the full game is a ‘recall all’ button, to make it easier to get all your workers back to the city. It’s an interesting integration of survival and city builder, where you collect resources but have to move the city around the map to find the next forest or water source. It was easy to get into the rhythm of the game you can move your city with the click of the button and after building a hanger, can send workers down in planes to collect resources from the ground below. I surveyed the map beneath my city, and the art style was reminiscent of the Game of Thrones opening credits, which I’m a big fan of. Flying High VancouvAIR was up in the air with a handful of residence and two goals: make allies and survive. After a new coat of paint, VancouvAIR was ready for launch. I surveyed my city and messed with the limited customization, allowing you to choose from a selection of colours to change the building’s aesthetics. While the game currently doesn’t allow you to name the kingdom, I went with the appropriately titled “VancouvAIR”. The cutscene was done and there I was, with my own floating city in the sky. Once I started up with the game, I was introduced to the overarching plot, involving the Airborne Kingdom uniting other kingdoms throughout the land. The glorious Kingdom of VancouvAIR soaring through the sky. The music of the game is great and helps reinforce the art style with methodical Arabian melodies. It was a nice change to other city builders I’ve played, which consist of steel grey obelisks and wooden houses.
It’s a game I’ve been curious about since it was announced last year and thanks to the developer, The Wandering Band, I’ve had a chance to get hands-on with a pre-release version of the game Lift Off When I first loaded up Airborne Kingdom I was drawn in by the game’s Arabian aesthetic, with the menus, UI, and building design looking like they could be plucked out of Aladdin. It was developed by The Wandering Band and is available exclusively through the Epic. It’s a simulation/strategy game that will have you flying over open landscapes while attempting to unite the various peoples of the land. It’s a city-builder, resource management, and survival game all wrapped into one. Airborne Kingdom is a sky city builder that allows you to grow your own town in the clouds. The simplest way to describe Airborne Kingdom is by saying it’s a city-builder in the sky, but it’s so much more.

This is why the PC Gaming Conference is one of my favourite moments of E3, as it I learn about the latest strategy games hitting PC, like Airborne Kingdom. Whether you are leading an army, building a city, or commanding a country, these games strike a cord as they offer a form of escape while still making me think.
